Back from Norway

eider-duck-male-sunlit
Another great trip with Natures Images has come to an end. Cold temperatures and wind made this a true winter event. Our host Ole Martin Dahle has been a wonderful guide once again. His knowledge, hard work and love for nature is inspirational and made this trip a big success. Our goal for this trip were elk, golden eagle and red fox but there was more. A female goshawk showed her self for a few seconds but long enough to get a good shot. On our way back we had a go with the eider ducks. Hundreds of them in good light. A truly magnificent trip once again. Can’t wait to go back because for me it’s photographic heaven.

Today I’ve started a new project which looks promising.  It’s not going to be easy but I’ve got good hope and will keep you posted. The image on the left is one of a male eider duck from Norway.

Winter sets in....

black-tailed-godwitnews
Finally it’s winter. Not the best season for everyone but I love it. I love the cold, snow and ice. I just came back from a month in Senegal and the first two days back in the Netherlands were quite tough to be honest. From  48C  to -7C  is a big step to say the least. But now I’m used to it I love every minute of it. Lots of things are planned for this winter and if the weather God’s are with me, I will have a blast for sure. Fingers crossed.

Also a fair number of my images have been sold to magazines and this silhouette of a black-tailed godwit, which also featured on the cover of Birds Magazine May 2010, is the RSPB’s most selling print.

That’s it for now and I wish you all a very happy Christmas and I will be back here before the end of this year. Stay tuned.

The end of summer

cover-bij-nieuwsbericht  Not a big fan of the summer to be honest.  Photographically speaking that is. Every summer I'm struggling to find decent projects. Early mornings and evenings are good but during the day I'm quite bored.

But I have to say this summer has been good to me.  A lot of images were published in various magazines like Grasduinen including the cover. Also Vivara/CJ Wildlife has published a good number of images of me and my son in their new trade catalogue.  My new website is running smooth and the number of visitors are higher than ever. Very pleased to say the least.

Autumn is on its way and can't wait to get out and enjoy those lovely autumn colors again.

In October I will be running a short trip in the UK with Danny Green and it will be fun I'm sure. If you're interested in a great winter trip to Norway in February next year, have a look on the Natures Images website. Some places left on this amazing trip I will be running. Arctic foxes, golden eagle, sea eagle, roe deer and moose. All in a beautiful winter setting.

Arty Farty Eagles

NEWS-image_20100820 I’ve just returned from Norway where I was leading a trip for Natures Images.  A week full of eagle action, perfect weather conditions and a great group of photographers.

My main goal was taking backlit images and the conditions were just perfect. We could do with less wind but the sun was out from early morning till late evening. I must admit it’s hard work hand holding the camera and keeping the birds in the viewfinder on a bouncing boat. I had to concentrate on the eagle and try to keep the bird in the frame. Sometimes it worked but also a lot of images were thrown straight into the bin due the lack of sharpness.

Still very pleased with what I’ve got and looking forward to my next Natures Images trip in February.  There are some new images on the website for you to take a look at. Hope you will enjoy them as much as I do.

Best wishes

New website

vos-300-pixelsNational Geographic Magazine Hi all,

I like to welcome you to my new website and hope you like the design. A special thanks goes to Arjan van der Stelt for building the new website.  His skills are amazing and “I can’t do that” is not in his vocabulary.  A big thanks!!  Of course I will do my best to keep the website up to date and publish my new work on a regular basis.

Some exciting things happened to me the last few months. One of them is a publication in the Dutch/Belgium National Geographic magazine and also the front cover of the RSPB magazine is something I’m really proud of. Also my first entry in an International competition has been awarded with a highly commended in the mammal category.

July and August are always quite difficult months for me to start new projects. Light is often very harsh and young mammals and birds have left their nesting sites. The roe deer rut is something I really look forward to but that’s it for me really. But I will not complain this year because I will be leading an amazing trip to Norway for Natures Images. We will be spending a lot of time photographing White-tailed eagles located around Flatanger. The best place in Europe if you ask me.

Also I can’t wait for the red deer rut to begin and I will be out every single day. After the rut ends here I will be flying off to the UK to co-lead an exciting photo trip with Danny Green and 8 guests. We will be shooting the red deer rut and spend a day at the Barn Owl center of Gloucestershire. I’m really looking forward to this. Enjoy the website and please come back soon to check for updates.

If you have a link to my old website on your website and you want to keep the link, please be sure to change the url.
